About

The raccoon, better known as the bandit of the animal world, occurs naturally in swamps and deciduous forests throughout North and Central America. They are not afraid of human urbanization, and this can sometimes cause problems. It belongs to the family Procyonidae (the small bears) and is omnivorous. The animal species to which it is most closely related are: coatis, Kinkajou, ring-tailed lemurs and even the red panda from Western China can be considered one of its cousins. A raccoon has a life expectancy of up to 12 years in the wild. Specimens often do not reach this exceptional age because they have fallen victim to hunting, traffic or disease.
